La Casería de Tito

Many aspects of finding suitable accommodation in Úbeda, Baeza and Cazorla are similar to elsewhere in Europe, as a number of major hotel chains own establishments in the area.

However, there are other more unusual options which often enable you to get to know the locals, such as Casas Rurales (Rural Houses). These fall into two (not immediately clear) categories: some of them operate like French gîtes, i.e. houses and villas in the country that are let out to visitors. However, other Casas Rurales are more like country hotels, offering B&B and even an on-site restaurant. Of this latter type, I can personally recommend La Casería de Tito, in San Bartolomé, a hamlet near Úbeda. It´s only a few miles from Baeza and is a few hundred yards off the Cazorla road, thus providing an ideal base for exploring the area.

La Casería de Tito

La Casería de Tito is a converted 19th century farmhouse run by a husband-and-wife team, Tito and Macarena. They´ve only got seven rooms, all of which are en-suite and air-conditioned, but the key point is really their personal touch and the way they welcome you to their home. Tito provides a terrific welcome and local knowledge, while Macarena does the cooking. We´re talking home-cooked Andalusian seasonal stuff here, and one of my best memories of Úbeda is sitting down to a meal in their dining room. Gorgeous dishes flew thick and fast!

English is spoken, but this is a superb opportunity to try out your Spanish in relaxed surroundings, garnering loads of recommendations as to where you might visit during your time in the area.
